Vinaròs, would you like to swim in natural gas?

If you are thinking in coming to visit or settling in Vinaròs (Costa del Azahar, Spain) or you have in mind to buy or build an apartment or tourist infrastructure in its surrounding area (Baix Maestrat in Comunidad Valenciana or Montsia in Catalonia), you must be aware of the risk that you are going to take. This region will be affected by a process of industrialization that will involve an irreversible damage for the environment, transforming the peaceful and welcoming region that you know into a threat for human health and safety.

The City Hall of Vinaròs has accepted the development of a project for natural gas storage (CASTOR PROJECT) in front of the coast and the installation of a plant for the process of the gas inside its municipality. The reservoir will entail a constant risk of explosion which could surpass the destroying power of Hiroshima nuclear bomb. Additionally, huge emissions of dangerous gases as well as an important modification of the landscape of the region will be generated by the processing plant. The fact that local and state authorities disregard the environmental effects of this project will hopelessly exacerbate its negative effects.

The Castor Project not only will represent the construction and exploitation of one of the biggest reservoirs of natural gas in Europe. Simultaneously, a new industrial zone will be promoted as a compensation for the municipal area for the ecological damage and social confrontation that such a project will represent. This industrial zone will probably lodge factories related to gas and energy sectors, as thermal power station as well as other industries highly hazardous for environment and humans, increasing by this mean the harm to the region. If all this was not enough, the Ministry of Industry has authorized the installation of wind turbines in front of Vinaròs coast.

All these projects will demand the creation of High Voltage towers across the territory and the development of new energy related industries. As a result of it, the coastal zones of Alcanar, Vinaròs, Benicarló and Peñíscola as well as other surrounding villages as Ulldecona, Sant Jordi, Sant Rafel del Riu, La Sènia... will lost their characteristic quality of life by progressive ecological deterioration.

Therefore, the information present above should be taken into consideration by anyone willing to visit or settle in the territory where this industrial project will be developed.
